Dead Space Guide

Don't cha just love that smile for the camera ^there. Such a good picture! Ah, I love Dead Space. Surprisingly, this if my fourth horror guide in a row. No other gaming genre has really amused me that much this year, except for the stylish action in Devil May Cry 4 and the dinosaur shooting in Turok... oh, and a bit of retro gameplay in Soul Calibur and god yelling on PSP.

Dead Space FAQ/Walkthrough by Berserker

How do the ASCII stars look? Realistic? Messy? That's the only type of design I could think of really. How does the item location format look? This was a new type of format that I decided on a few days ago and I think it looks great. You can scroll through the guide and look off to the right to search for item pickups in each chapter by watching for "Item List".

In the coming weeks, I'm going to try to get this one on par with my Resident Evil 4 FAQ. The thing about RE4 is that I had already been playing for the past two years it was out before finally writing a guide for it, so I knew the game exremely well, unlike Dead Space, which I'm just now starting my third playthrough in.

This one covers both the PS3 and Xbox 360 version. I've gone through both of them and can confirm the slight differences listed in the guide (controller configuration and extra accomplishment [trophy] on PS3). Both button inputs are listed whenever a button command is mentioned. I listed it as PS3 up on GameFAQ since that was the first version that I played through.

This might be my last FAQ for this year. I'm really looking forward to Rygar: The Battle of Argus, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, Bionic Commando, Street Fighter IV, and of course, Resident Evil 5, so I'll probably do something with one or two of those. I don't really think I'd have enough skill to write a fighting game guide (the way I'd want to), so I'll most likely leave Street Fighter alone.

Update (11/10) - Added the rest of the files for Chapter 12. Few minor errors were corrected. A tip was added to the room with boulders in Chapter 7. Proofreading process starts next - what fun! :\

Update (11/11) - Proofread Chapters 1, 2 and 3! A few other minor little extras were added here and there and the weapons section in Basics has been filled out more.

Update (11/14) - Proofread Chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. A few item pickups were added here and there and I finally added an objective description in Chapter 11 that I had been lacking.

Update (11/17) - Proofread the remainder of the document! The "Tentacle" was added under the enemy section under Basics and some tips were added for the "Don't get cocky, kid" accomplishment that can be obtained in Chapter 4. A few item pickups were added here and there as well. This might be the last update for a while.

Update (12/15) -

Added:

a) a very well hidden random credit pickup in the Mining Hallway of Chapter 7
b) a random ammo pickup for the Mess Hall area of Chapter 10
c) a better Line Gun strategy for the Spawner
d) a mention of the Force Gun when Isaac first enters the Mining Administration Hallway in Chapter 4

g) a new Text File Transcripts section under the Lists section
h) a new Impossible Mode Tips section under the Lists section

ride, near the part where a Slasher busts through a vent to retreat into the
nearby wall in Chapter 3.

Access Walkway of Chapter 4 (before the cannon room) was added.
d) Added a random ammo pickup in the East Grow Chamber of Chapter 6.

asteroid beacon placement.

Very cool :D I like the format as well. It makes the guide that much more printable :)

I wish my Gears of War 2 arrived on time :O Oh well. It means more time to finish Star Ocean :P The game has both disappointed me (not very sci-fi, at least not yet), and impressed me (very deep skills system and great characters (which is really big for me as I think j-rpgs have among the most stereotypical ever. This is the first one I've played in a long time that did not have a ditzy weak girl sidekick)).

Thanks for the feedback. The proofreading process was supposed to start this weekend, but... well, it didn't because I was lazy, so hopefully I'll start next week.

Yeah, I was wondering if you were buying Gears 2. You must order online like I do. I usually pick the worst shipping at Gamestop, so I can get it for free. My games usually arrive in about two days with the worst shipping so it works out well for me.

I've already sent Far Cry 2 back to them once because the last copy didn't play well and now they sent me one with a heavily damaged case, so now I have to send it back again. Hopefully I'll get to finally play through it all the way before next year.

Good to hear Star Ocean was an overall good introduction to the PSP.

Haha, to be honest my true introduction to my PSP were the hours I spent playing Darkstalkers Chronicles :) Since I was playing something else before I started Star Ocean, I was playing Darkstalkers in the off-time :)

I don't usually order online for my games; this time I ordered online for the sake of the preorder bonus, except that bonus might not even make it to my door! Oh well... now I'm just twiddling my thumbs trying to be busy so that time passes quickly. Need to get home and get started on GoW2!

Is Darkstalkers easy to play on a PSP? I'd imagine that would be a little hard, that's why I've never bothered with. ...of course I do own and play SFA3 and manage to get by with the controls.

I got invited to GoW2 yesterday. It was an accident though by someone on my friend's list. Maybe he's trying to tell me something. :D

Yeah, same here :P I was a little surprised but oh well. I will definitely jump on Live eventually after going through the campaign.

Darkstalkers does have a handicap because of it's combo system... it's a little hard to do chains into Fierce (L) but it's okay, because honestly the amount of damage you can do by other attacks is more important than one button anyway; unlike other games poking in DS is only done to zone the opponent so you can get in the big combo, so it's not that big of a deal. Still a hell of a lot of fun :) BTW I posted some notes on Gears 2 (and Star Ocean) on my blog. It's very general and not too informative but it sums up my feelings well, haha.

Some news! NXE's installing-onto-hard drives hasn't done *that* much in terms of loading for most games but I found a list compiling quite a few titles and their changes. I noticed one VERY good thing though, for NG2: with the HDD install, changing weapons no longer pauses to load!

LINK!

Wow, the RPGs take up a lot of room, which is to be expected. Looks like the 120 GB HD is definitely in order now if you want to install, as hinted at in the article.

Still, it's nice that the install is not mandatory unlike PS3's install for some games. I have a few game chunks that I'm going to have to delete soon on my PS3 - DMC4 and Lost Planet (once I finish LP). I keep maneuvering around Siren - damn, they should have released it on a disc!

Off to kill some monsters.
