SIREN: Blood Curse Guide

Wow, what a time I have had with this guide! I almost delayed it a few days so I could proofread over it, but I went the extra mile today - spent the entire weekend on it really - and proofread through the entire walkthrough portion. By the time many of you read this, then it should already be up on the gaming sites that I usually post my work up on. But if anybody happens upon this post tonight then here it is:

SIREN: Blood Curse FAQ/Walkthrough by Berserker

SIREN: Blood Curse will definitely stand out as a memorable guide for me in more ways than one. It has been an extremely fun guide to work on and it has actually cost me the most out of any guide that I have done. It almost fell victim to an error with my computer but thankfully it was recovered. If it wasn't for that, I would have probably ended it right then and there. This guide really stands out as a lesson to me to back up my files to something as I work on them, instead of simply relying on my comp.

I'm so glad that I can finally post it up now. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to spend the rest of the night playing Xbox 360 now, so my eyes can quit bleeding from staring at this comp screen so much. >_>

UPDATE (9/3): Added a technique for knocking out the maggot shibito early in Episode 11, Chapter 2 thanks to Cor! One chapter mistake was corrected for an archive item and I found one minor typo while scanning through the guide.

Haha, congrats on finishing the guide :D Though, I do have to question the logic between going from a computer monitor... to a tv. :D I do get that there's definitely less eyestrain playing a game versus staring at black text on white BG the entire time...

I sit further away from my TV compared to my comp, so it doesn't bother my eyes near as much. Also, yesterday was spent just basically reading anyway, and I'm a slow reader, so it takes quite a while for me to get finished. It's so good to see some movement on the TV compared to a white screen with black text.

Out of curiosity, do you find it hard to read over your own work? The proofreading of one of my guides is always one of the hardest parts for me, but it's really one of the most essential parts, I think.

Proofing is very very hard for me. Oftentimes I actually skip it, so major props to you when I can't even proof 10 pages in a chapter >_> The biggest problem is that I usually have the story and scenario baking in my head so long, I glaze over the actual letters and let the words' meaning take over. That's actually how I can pump over like 500 pages of reading in a day, because a good story sucks my conscious mind out of the real world and all I see, hear and feel are what the words describe. It's like I literally absorb directly into the meaning of the words, and the letters are just there. That's how I can get such fond memories of my favorite stories, because they play out in my head like videos and memories as opposed to just words on a page.

I used to have editors for my stories, back when I could push people to read them :P I've always been writing for myself anyway, so my low readership now (as in <10) is not that big of a deal. The past few years have helped me mature and see how quickly RL gets in the way, and how me pushing people to read my stuff is pretty unfair.

On the other hand, having proofers really helps. I luckily got to have that when I worked at Atlus. I wrote a guide for Odin Sphere that we were giving to Tips and Tricks, and my boss proofed it for me and clarified my notes, which certainly helps a lot when you are trying to describe details and technical parts of the game.

Speaking of which, the latest chapter of Essence needs to be proofed, hehe. That one's been baking for a looooooooong time.

I wish I could get that involved in stories half the time. Every now and then (very rarely) I find myself completely involved, but I still look through the pages to see how much more reading I have left. :p

I can play the role of grammar teacher for that chapter you mentioned when I get around to reading Essence. I have to literally make myself proofread if I want to get it done. It's not fun at all, but I always try to do it. There are still some of my guides that have never been proofed - Tomb Raider Anniversary, FFXII (some of it has been), and a few others.

So, you wrote your own guide? And it was published! Oooo, I'd like to read that. :)

No need to proof the chapter, I know how much doing the edit takes away from enjoying the actual reading. This is why I generally want to try doing proofing checkpoints, just go through and make sure stuff is right. What's worse is actually getting my story consistent. I tend to lose details like how many years it's been since all the North America was nuked, etc.

As for the guide, unfortunately it was labeled as "contribution" to the Tips N Tricks strategy. Basically me and my coworker put together a list of stage and boss strategies, and gave it to TNT. They got one of their own writers and turned out 15+ pages into 6 :) So while the ideas are ours the words aren't, and we were listed as contributors. I was wholly expecting to be off the credits, so I put me and my friend's name in nice, bold print with a fun disclaimer, hehe.

Congrats! It's done finally.

I have some FFXII maps source file were gone because of my stupid brother bought the virus to my computer before I make a backup copy, sad... So? Never forgot to backup whathever I done. Well I could understand how's your feeling before you get rid of the error lol

x____X wow that's rough sephirosuy. It's one thing to lose your stuff just 'cause your computer blows up but it's another thing when you know someone did it -- accident or not :/

So the writer basically got credit for your ideas and then simply listed you and your friend as a contributor? Wow, that's pretty low. :|

Yeah, ever since I nearly lost the Blood Curse guide, I saved it every night to a flash drive after I got through with it. When I first got it back I actually emailed it to myself. :p

Man, that is so horrible how you lost some FFXII work Seph, and especially the details as to how. :( With Siren, I had considered starting from scratch again, if I in fact did lose what I had, but now that I think more about it, I just don't know if I could have actually done that if it was lost - the mood would have been killed in that predicament.
